Emptying the Cache
The cache is a small area on your computer that holds on to files, settings, and cookies that are downloaded to your computer when you are on the www. Sometimes these settings, cookies, and files will conflict. Emptying the cache is like cleaning out your refrigerator of items dated prior to the year 2000. Just get in there and do it!
If you are using Internet Explorer these are the steps:
1. Go to Tools in the top menu and click on
Internet Options in the
pull down menu.
2. In the middle section, Temporary Internet
files, Click on all
buttons in the order you
see them. Wait a few seconds after each
so the files can be deleted. The length of time
will depend on the
last time you performed this
function.
3. When you click on the last button, Settings,
you will get another
pop up window. Click on
the middle button, View Files. If you see
any files delete them!
4. Now you are ready to restart your browser and
put a box of baking
soda in there to keep it
fresh. (Just kidding about the baking soda
but I am feeling guilty about my refrigerator. I'd
better get home and
clean it. My kids are
coming in for a visit and they like to pull the
condiments off the fridge door and play "Where
were you and what
were you doing when mom
bought this?")
Netscape Navigator
1. Click on Edit in the top menu and
Preferences.
2. Click on Advanced - don't be afraid YOU are
advanced enough to
do this!
3. Click on Cache
4. Clear the memory cache and the disk cache.
5. Restart your browser and you are finished.
The directions for emptying the cache works for both browsers the same on MACS as well as PC's.
